It was a wet and wild day and we got caught in the rain. Luka said, "I feel sorry for homeless people, mum. Maybe they should think about moving to warm places?"
That one's right out of Old Grampa Johnnie's genes: when he was a "beggar" and was hungry, he started eating the grass in the front garden of a house he was passing, hoping the owner would take him in for a meal. Sure enough the auld wummin came out and asked him why he was eating the grass. He told her he hadn't eaten for days. She said, "come away through here" and took him to the kitchen. Auld Johnnie was quite happy with himself until she said, "Away oot the back door. The grass is longer there"
